LOONDANCE, 23” x 33”, 1990
‘Loondance ‘ was selected by the World Wildlife as a fundraising print in 1990 to raise funds to help protect these birds and their habitat. The painting is a night image showing how the moonlight dances across the loons and the surface of the water. The loon is the symbol of lake country in Canada and is a favorite of photographers and painters alike. To capture the essence of the loon and it's call, I wrote this poem and included it as hand written caligraphy on a stone lithograph I did that accompanied this piece.
The Loon
“The loon and its music embodies the spirit of the northern lakes and wilderness,
its freedom, solitude and mysteries.
Once heard, the haunting, far-carrying call-notes can never be forgotten.
Truly the wildest of sounds ever heard.”
Lawrence A. Dyer
The limited edition print is sold out.
I kept some prints that were not numbered. They are signed by the artist and printed on heavy acid free paper stock.
