ACHENSEE - LAKE ACHEN, 24” X 48”, 2015
Lake Achen (German Achensee) is one of Austria’s largest alpine lakes and is sometimes referred to as the "Fjord of the Alps" as it lies at the bottom of a deep valley surrounded by rugged snow-covered peaks. The city of Innsbruck bought the lake in 1919. The water quality is so good that it is drinkable without processing. This is a painting from the lake looking towards the town of Scholastica the northernmost point of the lake. The painting was inspired by a set of vintage postcards promoting the area in 1905. The image depicts the small settlement just as the town construction was beginning in the late 1800’s
